On Vacation, Batsheva Hay Paddleboards In Rhinestone Shoes
By Laia Garcia-Furtado
This summer, Batsheva Hay has spent a lot of time in upstate New York, where her mother-in-law has a lake house. This idyllic time in a town in Northern Westchester is spent surrounded by nature and various animals, like chickens, lizards, and birds. “Last week we even caught a fish!,” Hay, a native New Yorker, shared in an e-mail. It’s the perfect place to recharge and mentally prepare for the impending chaos of New York Fashion Week, which is kicking off in a few weeks. This season the designer will once again hold a presentation, though she’s keeping mum on the secrets. Not that we’re worried, whether an installation/performance at an art gallery, or a breakfast at a midtown Kosher deli, her show is one never to be missed.

Here’s me on a paddleboard in a long sleeve dress and rhinestone shoes because why not. My mother-in-law Claudia takes amazing photos of birds every day so she took this picture of me with her long lens. Her bird photos are epic, @claudiaaronow.
Me and my husband Alexei hanging in the shade. SPF 70 and total skin coverage is the name of the game.
Matching my prints to the purple flowers up on the deck.
We get fresh eggs from my friend’s chickens.
She named one of them after me, buck-sheva
My friend also has lizards that I like to visit.
It’s my Dr. Doolitle time.
I really do go for it with my dressing, even in the summer. A gingham taffeta caftan for rock climbing, why not?
